Dr. Theresa (Tess) M. Ahlborn, P.E. - Associate
Professor
Dr. Ahlborn is an Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan Tech. Her research expertise is in the area of concrete materials related to prestressed and reinforced concrete structures, including high performance and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) applications for structural durability. She is Director of the Center for Structural Durability with the Michigan Tech Transportation Institute and has worked extensively with Departments of Transportation to seek solutions related to the long-term durability of prestressed concrete structures. Current research projects include mechanical testing and design considerations of UHPC, and structural issues related to the deterioration of end regions in adjacent box beam bridges. Previous research work includes design, instrumentation, construction, and testing (service and ultimate loads) of full size HPC bridge girders, prestress losses predictions in HPC bridges, and repair techniques for prestressed concrete I-Beam ends. Her industrial experience includes design of bridges, dams, and hydropower support structures. Dr. Ahlborn is an active member in several professional organizations including the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI Bridges and Concrete Materials Technology) and the American Concrete Institute (ACI 408 and 423). She was also recently appointed to PCI's Technical Activities Committee. |
